Fareham Borough Council has granted outline planning permission for the converter station, with all matters reserved and subject to conditions. National Grid IFA2 has now developed detailed designs for the converter station, and submitted a Reserved Matters planning application to Fareham Borough Council in July 2017.

The detailed design proposals we have developed are in line with those agreed as part of the outline planning consent and related planning conditions. However, where possible, National Grid IFA2 has sought to reduce the visual impact of the converter station.

As a result, National Grid IFA2 has reduced the proposed height of the converter station from a maximum of 22 metres. The maximum height of the tallest building has been reduced to under 20 metres, with the height of many of the other buildings reduced even further.

National Grid IFA2 has also been able to make significant improvements to the layout, reducing the distances between buildings and the overall footprint of the site by around 24%. This has helped reduce the overall visual impact of the converter station.
