Resolution to grant planning permission secured for IFA2
On the 23 January, Fareham Borough Council resolved to grant planning permission for the IFA2 electricity interconnector, subject to completion of a section 106 agreement.
IFA2 will make a significant contribution to the Government’s target of increasing interconnector capacity to 10% of generation capacity by 2020. It will play an important role in helping to reduce the cost of electricity for homes and businesses, provide opportunities for shared use of more diverse sources of generation and help to improve security of electricity supplies in the UK.
A next step will be to submit a further detailed planning application later in 2017 for the converter station buildings at Solent Airport and new public open space around the site. These plans will be within the boundaries of the outline planning permission granted by Fareham Borough Council.
National Grid will continue to work with local authorities, communities, businesses and interest groups as the project progresses.
